No matter your background...

       or  your circumstances in life...

   you belong here!

Thank you for your interest in Sutherland Church of Christ. CoC wants to make a lasting difference in your life, in our community, and in the world. How do we go about that? By leading people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. That's the driving purpose behind everything we do. Sutherland CoC isn't a building...it's people. People in all stages of their faith, people like you.

On this website you will find information about who we are and what you can expect when you come to Sutherland Church of Christ. In addition, you can watch this week's sermon, which is found on our homepage that we update each week, or you can locate any of our past sermons found on our YouTube Channel by clicking the YouTube icon here   >>>

Meet The Ministers

Minister

John Erickson

John started his ministry at Sutherland in July of 2008. He met his wife, Brittany, while ministering here and the two married in 2011. They have 3 children, Karianne, Kanon and Kiplin.

John grew up on a farm near Kearney, Nebraska, and received his education at Nebraska Christian College.

John has a passion for lost and broken people and loves to preach and help guide and lead the church.

John enjoys time with family, watching football (GO BIG RED!), playing volleyball, a little bit of cooking and a good board game.

He is excited about the vision of the church here in Sutherland and glad he is privileged to serve it.

Associate Minister

Brennan Nassiff

Brennan has been on staff with Sutherland Church of Christ since June of 2019. He and his wife, Jenny, moved here from Ankeny, Iowa. Brennan and Jenny have been married since August 2018.

He has previously served on staff at Ankeny FCC as the youth minister and before that, he was the Children's Minister at FCC in Moweaqua, Illinois. Brennan graduated from Lincoln Christian University with a degree in Children & Family Studies.

Brennan likes to play most sports, play board games, and watch his favorite teams (Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings, and the Volunteers). He has a passion for seeing people come to know and love the LORD.

What we believe.

About The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority on all matters of faith.

2 Timothy 3:16 | Hebrews 4:12-13 | Romans 15:4

About God

We believe in one God who created all things and who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:1 | Acts 17:24-28 | Matthew 3:16-17 | John 14:9-10

About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was resurrected from death, and ascended to heaven where he sits at the Father's right hand. We believe that Jesus will come again to claim his bride, the church.

John 3:16 | Matthew 1:18 | Romans 5:6-11 | John 20:24-31

About The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers, empowering our lives with his presence and power to live a godly life and accomplish God's will.

John 16:5-15 | Romans 8:10-11 | 1 Corinthians 3:16

About Sin

We believe that man willfully sinned against God and is therefore lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:23 | 1 John 1:7 | Acts 4:12

 About Death

We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. The saved will inherit eternal life whereas the unsaved will be eternally separated from God.

Romans 8:9-14 | Daniel 12:2 | John 6:47

About Salvation

We believe that salvation comes by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 26:28 | Romans 5:8-11 | Romans 6:23 | Ephesians 2:8-9

About Receiving Christ

We believe the Biblical pattern from receiving Christ includes acknowledging the Jesus Christ is God's Son, repenting from personal sin, and inviting Christ to be Lord of your life.

1 John 1:8-9 | Romans 6:1-7

About The Church

We believe that the church is the body and bride of Christ and consists of Christians everywhere.

Matthew 16:13-18 | Acts 2:14-47

About Baptism, Communion &  Dedications

We believe in water baptism by immersion for those who have accepted Christ as their Savior. We practice regular observance of communion as a means of remembering Christ's sacrifice and death on the cross. We perform child dedication to acknowledge the parent's desire to raise their child in the ways and instructions of the Lord.

Matthew 3:13-17 | Matthew 28:19-20 | 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 | Proverbs 22:6
